Tipetse cave

Found in 1978 by the Studenets caving club of Chepelare. Excavations in 1986 turned up signs of people who sheltered here in hard times.

The same dig found the bones of a cave bear — a species that lived here more than 27,000 years ago. They are kept in the Rhodope Karst museum in Chepelare.

A 2007 survey brought up early Iron Age pottery, twelfth to ninth century BC, along with classical and medieval ceramics.
