Lisa Gora watchtower

Nineteen metres, built by the villagers so people could see how far the Rhodopes go.

It stands where a socialist-era border tower used to be. Grandfather Mitko and a few others from the village put it up so the mountains could be seen all at once.

From the top: most of the Western Rhodopes, Bulgaria’s southernmost point at Veyaka peak, and two Greek mountains — Bozdak and Pangeon. On a clear day, the Pirin range appears too.

More than fifteen villages and hamlets, and a sea of forest and meadow between them.
